Midnight is where the day begins

Just a quick post, to keep up the habit.

I am having a neildiesel night - well, not really... but I am watching a replay of West Ham vs Aston Villa. Just checked bbc to see when the game actually took place - and i saw the score. whoops.

Did my peak long run tonight. A 22 miler, 3 weeks out from marathon day. Did the first 8 miles solo, then grabbed Flicker for the final 14. Got the nutrition bang on - 3 gels and some of those delicious jelly belly sport beans ( think of salty gatorade flavoured jelly beans.... ). Finished in 3 hours flat, with no wall hitting to speak of. Temperature was perfect, no humidity - can't wait for the real day. Glad my 60 mile week is over too.

Tapering now starts slowly - recovery run tomorrow if my legs will take it. Surely they will be ok.

Soundtrack - New London Fire - Digital EP 2 (its free online, and its awesome. 2 new songs and 2 album songs. go get it).

I know there will be no more goals tonight, 1-1 draw... whats that they say about kissing your sister? oh ya, its gross.

PS - great post Sekk. keep on pedalling, my icelandic ninja brother

neildiesel

thought the title was accurate... as I am having a huge jd morning. Lets see if i can post like him.

Up at 7:45, on a Saturday.. didn't sleep well last night - new mattress and bad allergies. Cable guy scheduled to come between 8 and noon, but I forgot to pick up the digital box. That means a 15 minute drive to pick it up... place isn't open til 9:30.Grabbed some soy and a banana for the drive. First spot they told me is no longer renting units - damn. Wasted 10 minutes getting there.

Got home as the cable guy is showing up. Didn't look like Jim Carey, more like my friend Mike from public school. As I'm agreeing to their terms of service, he tells me what speeds I should expect from newsgroups. Who needs newsgroups, I like oink.

grabbing a new talib single, the legends, some pete yorn EPs and that damn killers song, remixed.

1-0 Boro at the half. I have faith in Henry. After all, I'm neildiesel. Gunners for life.

Summer? Where did you go?

Somewhere, back there... in those weeks and months gone by, summer disappeared. Today was the first day of school for many - which means that in what feels like a few days, it will be winter.

I'm still wearing shorts, but I'm not gonna lie - as I sit here right now, my ankles are cold. Feels like its too soon to give into the option of jeans. Suffering through cold days in shorts in the spring is heroic - you serve as a beacon to others that better days lie ahead. Suffering through cold days in the autumn is also a role to be respected - you show others that things aren't that bad. Summer is still here. If that guy is still wearing shorts, then everything is alright.

Yes. I am that guy. The guy wearing shorts and flip flops in April and October.

But when I sit on the couch, I hide in a blanket.

Sweatblog: Last night was a 5 miler that turned into 6... Cruise control was in order. Tonight is scheduled for a minimum of 10 miles, but I feel like doing more. This is the last huge week (close to 60 miles) before a taper begins in earnest next week. 25 days to go. can't wait.

Happy Trails

Wow - holy sweatblog batman. I was digging through some old blog posts, not for the sake of retroactively reading my own mind, but more for ideas on how to layout archives in a CMS, and I realized that the sweatblog nature of this blog isn't such a bad thing. I am more than aware that this often spirals into a recounting of repeated footsteps, strung together to somehow achieve some sort of universal meaning... but in re-reading posts, I am able to see where I was at last year, preparing for the same marathon as I am now.

So until further inspiration inspires, lets recount the paces in the sand.

This week, with recovery in mind, I hit the trails. There is something about chasing rabbits and jumping roots that makes things more interesting. Is it possible to maintain a recovery week pace when a wooded trail of rolling hills suddenly leads to a lake-reflected sunset? I haven't found any evidence of this possibility, nor have I felt the effects of overzealous pace during a stepback week. Both Wednesday and Thursday were trailbound... and for tomorrow's 10k, I may well go back.

That is, unless, the tropical storm formerly known as "Ernest goes to hurricane camp" rains on my parade. My Mizuno's are nearly in their afterlife, treads worn from a summer of hard work... there are fresh ones waiting in the box... but I don't think I am ready to subject my dear friends to deep mud.

Soundtrack: runcasts.
