Podcasts, Bad Shox, and a major threat

First things first... iTunes 4.9 was finally released from Apple. Podcasting is now available for all those people who didn't want the hassle of using iPodder or those who didn't even know what this podcasting thing was all about in the first place. Only one problem, according to the latest Daily Source Code , apparently Apple forgot to host all of the popular podcasts on their akamai servers. whoops. So, lets just say actually accessing most of these podcasts is sort of ugly for now ;). Screamer pointed me to a nice one... Endurance Radio Podcast , where they interview ultra athletes. Seems pretty rad so far.

Next up on the agenda. Finally had it up to HERE with Nike Shox as my running shoes. After doing some biomechanical research as part of a 4th year project, I had concluded that the elastomer shox technology actually held some water. Not in terms of energy return, because 99% of the research has concluded that the entire concept of shoes springing energy back into your stride is pure marketspeak (and 1% of it is just terrible research). The cushioning itself is great... however the design of the shoe is just bad. The lateral heel aspect of the outsole wears down so fast (might post photos soon), that they literally have broken down in just over 4 weeks of running. I've decided to send back the 2 pairs I have to Nike, get new ones, and use those sparingly. I bit the bullet and bought a pair of Mizuno Wave Creation 5's , and will start breaking those in shortly.

Finally, just thought I'd point out some interesting links on the topic of Nike making mistakes. Here's the gist of it. Basically Nike tried to enter a culture by ripping off one of their icons. Awesome. Maybe they should create a new religion; plenty of noteworthy icons to use there! Anyways, here's the response .

Hotlanta

Smokin' hot afternoon here. Went out and bought a Fuel Belt yesterday. Will make the long runs a lot more bearable in weather like this. Gonna take it out today for a nice 18km sojourn.

Today is day 1 of the Western States 100 . 100 mile run starting in Squaw Valley CA, and ending in Auburn. 100 miles itself is impressive, but check out this map of the elevations that they're covering. Crazy. Pullin' for Dean Karnazes, the man is a freak.

Speaking of freaks, 1 week til the Tour De France. Amazing month of sports. I love it.

...this digital life

So... here we go. Blogging.

Lately been listening to a lot of Adam Curry's Daily Source Code Podcasts. For those of you who don't know what podcasting is, here's a quick synopsis: anyone with anything (or nothing) to say can record an audio file and publish it online. Simple to use clients, such as iPodderX will allow you to subscribe to the podcast, and automatically download it and sync it to your iPod for you. iTunes will be gaining this functionality and bringing podcasting to the masses in the next couple weeks... this is where life gets good!

Its really amazing how inconvenient life is when other people are telling you how to digest your media. The whole idea of scheduling is whacked if you think about it.... "be listening from this time until this time if you want to hear this". Torrents have allowed tv viewers to filter what they are watching and when they watch it; and now podcasting is going to bring the same to radio content. awesome.

Other recently spun sounds:
So Jealous - Tegan & Sara
Speak For Yourself - Imogen Heap
Black Sessions - The Cure

screamer told me to listen to The Sounds of Animals Fighting , but it sounds too heavy and punk-like for now... maybe tomorrow. maybe not :)
